Authorised Witness Status

An Authorised Witness oversees the destruction of expired controlled drugs and will be supplied with a Letter of Authority from an Accountable Officer.

This does not relate to
patient returned controlled drugs.

Examples of an Authorised Witness

  • Police chemist inspection officers
  • The Society's inspectors
  • Home Office inspectors
  • An individual authorised by an Accountable Officer, usually in large companies.
